Sporting KC US Open Cup Champion

Kansas City, Kansas- The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup has been known for its enriching history. Year after year this cup offers suspenseful drama, last night the 2017 final added one more suspenseful final to the list. Sporting Kansas City took the cup by defeating New York Red Bulls in a match that was a thriller from the moment the ball first rolled up to the final whistle from the ref. It was Sporting KC who drew first blood in the 25th minute. The goal came off a fantastic cross from Graham Zusi on the right side of the field. It would be the 5 ft. 3in sensation Latif Blessing who would header it past the New York Red Bull’s GK Ryan Meara. The goal set up Sporting KC to take full control of the game and it would be Salloi who would come and double Sporting KC’s lead halfway through the second half. Again this came on to prove the Sporting was in full control of the game. There was no doubt that most of the 21,523 people in attendance were all happy to see the scoreboard. Everything was going great for the home team and the fans loved every bit of it.  However, Sporting and their fans lived a moment of scare when in the second-half stoppage time  Wright-Phillips netted one in for Red Bull’s. The referee and his staff would go on to add six minutes of stoppage time, the match was as suspenseful as could be. After a long six minutes referee Hilario Grajeda would finally blow his whistle for the last time of the night and with that seal Sporting’s 2017 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Championship.
