The stadium doors were opened early sunday morning, and about two hours prior to the game, the stands were full.
The City Mayor of Siquinala Professor Carlos Dardon made a promised to his team. “If one day we were to advance to the Major League, I will keep the core players to play with the big boys.” Dardon kept his promise. Usually teams that advance to the major league in Guatemala get rid of most of his players, Dardon didn’t.
From the beginning of the game, Siquinala wanted to win the match. The first opportunity to scored came early in the first half when Melvin Estrada send the ball and hit the crossbar that goalkeeper Paulo Motta was defending. The teams went to the looker rooms at halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Melbin Estrada gave the edge to the team when a cross ball hit the hands of a defender, the center referee called a penalty kick. The captain for Siquinala was in charge of taking the PK, but the goalkeeper of Sanarate blocked the shot and the teams remain scoreless.
With 5 minutes left in the game, finally the goal came, something that the whole city of Siquinala has being waiting for. Estrada with his left chest sent the ball to the far post and Paulo Motta couldn’t stop the shot after the cross from Brayan Morales. That was enough and Siquinala took the first 3 points of the tournament and allow the team to start 4th in the ranks of the Guatemala Major League Soccer.
