LITTLE ROCK, AR -- When you think of the three-day festival, food, fun and music are just a few things that come to mind.
But what you may not know is all the preparation that goes on behind the scenes to make it all happen; it’s a Riverfest committee that puts it all together. It takes a lot of volunteers, a lot of commitment.
Riverfest celebrated it’s 30 anniverssary on the banks of the Arkansas River in Little Rock and North Little Rock. Stages were on the North Little Rock and Little Rock sides of the river.
Volunteer Coordinator Kristi Clark says, “We have some corporations that supply close to 300 and then we have lots of high school drill teams, clubs and church groups."
They are the face of Riverfest and are involved in every aspect from selling food to admission; jobs that are not always so easy.
It takes 11 months, and 150 volunteers who work all year round to make Riverfest a reality. Over 3,000 volunteers work the weekend to make sure your safe while you have a good time.
He says there is several hundred law enforcement officers representing 8 different agencies to make sure nothing happens; “We have a plan if something were to happen that there is a way to orderly evacuate the park to handle each problem."
The Riverfest committee takes off in June and begins the planning process all over again in July. Organizers of Riverfest say the event went more smoothly than in past years, even though the crowds were bigger this year.
