SPRINGDALE, AR - The Hispanic Women’s Organization of Arkansas (HWOA) announce its 12th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration to be held May 7th, 2011 at the Jones Center in Springdale. The festival theme reflects its motto, "Celebrating Education, Culture and Community.”
Proceeds benefit the HWOA Scholarship Fund.
Since its inception in 2000, the HWOA Scholarship fund has awarded 190 scholarships worth $95,000 to Hispanic students many of whom are first generation college students. HWOA is a non-profit organization founded in July 1999, by a group of Hispanic women and is affiliated with the National Council of La Raza (NCLR).
HWOA engages in events that reflect its mission to advance educational opportunities for Hispanic women and their families, to celebrate and teach others about our cultures, and to be active participants in the community.
The Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Jones Center in Springdale is a community event, free to the public, with live music, traditional folk dance performances from different countries, food, vendors, children’s activities and exhibits. This is a family oriented festival, which gives local performers the opportunity to showcase their talents. The program is from 1:00 to 8:00PM.
