The awards show also ranked #1 in New York and Miami, regardless of language among adults 18-49.
The awards, hosted by Gaby Espino and Aaron Diaz, featured top musical acts such as Juanes, Alexis & Fido, Yandel, El General Gadiel, Olga Tañon, Elvis Crespo, David Bisbal, Gabriel Coronel, Gerardo Ortiz, Natalia Jimenez, Los Tucanes de Tijuana and La Ley.
The awards show, which aired live from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida was preceded by the star-studded blue carpet pre-show “La Alfombra de Premios Tu Mundo,” which delivered its best performance ever averaging 1.38 million total viewers and 751,000 adults 18-49.
There were eight total categories dedicated to music, and most of the other categories celebrated people's work, such as Novela of The Year, Favorite Male and Female Protagonist and Favorite Young Actor. But there were also some unconventional awards, such as #FanClub of the Year, Social Sensation and Favorite Sports Moment.
Top honors went to lead actors Rafael Amaya and Gaby Espino who received Favorite Lead Actor awards. On the music side, the Ortiz brothers walked out with an award each, with Gerardo Ortiz taking Favorite Norteño Artist and Kevin Ortiz taking Favorite Banda. Ortiz received the most tweets in support from the viewers.
Favorite Pop Artist went to Enrique Iglesias, who also won Party-Starting Song for his summer hit “Bailando.” “Santa Diabla” was awarded Novela of the Year and Best Bad Luck Moment, among other acting nods.
Premios Tu Mundo ranked as the #1 Hispanic Social TV Show among broadcast and cable networks according to Nielsen Social, registering 1.5 million impressions on Twitter during the telecast, and beating out other major awards shows that aired over the last year in terms of engagement, including the Premios Lo Nuestro 2014, 86th Academy Awards, 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards and the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
Additionally, Premios Tu Mundo became a worldwide trending topic on Facebook and Twitter and #PremiosTuMundo registered over 633,000 hashtag instances across all platforms.
