UALR Hispanic Law Students Association elects officers

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Hispanic Law Students Association, (HLSA) at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law celebrated its 5th annual Scholarship Reception at the Law School’s Deans Gallery.

“The event, widely attended and sponsored by the legal and business community in Arkansas, offered time for law students and faculty to mingle with prominent attorneys and corporate leaders in a festive atmosphere, enjoying food with a Latin flair and live music,” said HLSA president Dawn Castillo Harper.

A short program included welcoming remarks by HLSA president Castillo Harper, acknowledgement of sponsors, announcement of scholarship winners and presentation of awards by Professor Ranko Oliver and Dawn Castillo Harper.

Founding member Crissy Monterrey, recognized the incoming 2010-2011 HLSA Officers, President Mike Salorio, Vice Presidents Caleb Garcia and Juan Carlos Hernandez, Secretary Jose Alfaro and Treasurer Lauren Ferris.

Diana S. Sen, Associate Counsel for Latino Justice PRLDEF served as the Keynote address with an effective recount of her own opportunities during her own legal career, which inspired the audience.

Among the corporations receiving awards for their supporting role to HLSA were Jude A. Cisneros Associate General Counsel from Walmart and Leo Monterrey partner at Monterrey & Tellez Law Firm.
The Bowen HLSA, founded in 2005, now boasts over 30 members and is one of the law school’s most active student organizations, fielding a moot court team, attending meetings of the National Hispanic Bar Association, and accomplishing many public service endeavors each year.
