Diversity is influencing America’s culinary experience

“Salsa overtaking ketchup as America’s No. 1 condiment,” says an article published by the Associated Press. The Hispanic population encompasses nearly a quarter 17 percent of the U.S. population, with growth expected to continue, according to a 2013 U.S. Census Bureau. And, the Hispanic population isn’t the only one that shows persistent expansion. The U.S. Census also shows that the Asian population has increased 46 percent over the past 10 years. Asians now represent 5 percent of the U.S. population.

So is the growth and presence of both populations influencing the culinary landscape…

SOS encourage tobacco prevention at “Cinco de Mayo”

The Minority Initiative Sub-Recipient Grant Office, MISRGO’s, “Stamp Out Smoking” program will again partner with local Hispanic organizations to encourage tobacco prevention and cessation in remembrance of Cinco de Mayo. Saturday, May 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the 11th annual Cinco de Mayo ¡Hola! Arkansas Health & Safety Fest will take place at MacArthur Park in Little Rock.

Cinco de Mayo is an annual observance day wherein Hispanic communities pay tribute and celebrate the culture and the Mexican history.
