State board take over Little Rock School District

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) voted Wednesday, January 28 to take over the historic Little Rock School District (LRSD). The board voted 5 to 4 in favor of the takeover. ADE’s Academic Distress Committee voted to dissolve the LRSD school board, and appoint Dr. Dexter Suggs as interim superintendent of the nearly 25,000 student district. State Board Chairman Sam Ledbetter ensured the public, “Schools will still run tomorrow. Classes will still be taught.”

Arkansas Razorbacks 69, Tennessee Volunteers 64

Hogs came back to college basketball, on Tuesday night, January 27th. Arkansas Razorbacks had a top scoring against Tennessee Volunteers 69-64, in a closed game in the Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The difference in the game was Arkansas’ ability to get to the free throw line in the second half. Both teams made the same number of shots but the Razorbacks were 7-9 from the free throw line in the second half while the Vols only attempted two free throws and missed both. Those seven points are what turned the Hogs’ 2-point halftime deficit into a 5-point victory.
