Arkansas’ Governor Asa Hutchinson and Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils recently made the decision to establish fitness centers at three Arkansas elementary schools.

“Congratulations to the three winning schools for implementing healthy living curriculums into their classrooms,” said Governor Asa Hutchinson.  “I am proud of all the students, staff and community members involved in this effort and thank Jake Steinfeld for bringing this opportunity to Arkansas schools. Because of your dedication and support of active, healthy students, we are creating a healthier Arkansas!”

The schools, chosen through a competitive application process, are Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Interdistrict Magnet Elementary School in Little Rock, Lincoln Middle School in Lincoln and S.C. Tucker Elementary School in Danville.

The $100,000 cost of each center will be provided through public-private partnerships at no expense to the state, the foundation said. The centers are expected to open next fall.
