Riding a 3 game win streak, the Arkansas Razorback men’s basketball team took their home season record to 14-1 with a convincing 94-75 win over #21-ranked Texas A & M Saturday at the Bud Walton Arena. The win avenged a January 30th loss on the Aggies’ home court. The win takes the Razorbacks’ record to 19-8, 8-6 in the SEC.
The Razorbacks and the Aggies were tied 2-2, and the Aggies never had the lead throughout the game. Arkansas took a double digit lead with 6:09 left in the 1st half on Daniel Gafford’s free throws and the Razorbacks toyed with the double digit lead throughout. The raucous sold out partisan crowd of 19,200 went to the half holding a 43-32 Razorback lead.
The trio of Daniel Gaffords, Daryl Macon and Jaylen Barford were effective both with clutch shooting and effective rebounding. Both Barford and Macon well-timed three-pointers during an important second half stretch that took it to a 16-point lead at one point.
The Aggies had a difficult time early with turnovers, and committed a total of 13 for the game. Neither team had a huge run, but there were several times when the Razorbacks were trading two buckets for one.
Foul trouble was not a deciding factor today, either. Dustin Thomas did pick up his 4th foul with 16 minutes remaining, but the Razorback bench did not miss a beat with both intensity and defense. The defense held the Aggies to a 49.3 % from the floor and only 43.5 % from the 3-point arc.
The Razorbacks will be back in action Saturday on the road vs. Alabama and will be back inside Bud Walton Arena Tuesday February 27th to face the Tigers of Auburn with a 8pm tip off.
